In-Home Pet Euthanasia FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions families ask us most about in-home pet euthanasia, pricing, and aftercare in San Diego.

How do I know when it’s time?

There is rarely one perfect moment, and many families wonder about this. Our quality-of-life resource can help you organize what you are seeing at home so you can talk it through with your veterinarian. You are also welcome to call or text our team with questions.

What happens during an in-home euthanasia visit?

Our veterinarian will talk with you about the process and answer your questions first. Your pet receives anesthetic sedation so they are deeply relaxed and unaware before euthanasia, and we place an IV catheter whenever possible. You can take as much time as you need before and after. You can read more about what to expect and how to prepare.

Can family members, children, and other pets be present?

Yes. Many families choose to have everyone together at home, including children and other pets. Our veterinarian can help you decide what feels right for your family.

How soon can you come?

We often have same-day or next-day appointments, depending on your location and our schedule. Please call or text 619-255-6066 for the soonest availability.

What are your hours?

Appointments are available 7 days a week, 8am to 6pm. An after-hours appointment may be available for an additional fee.

How much does in-home euthanasia cost?

The visit fee is $345 during standard hours or $445 after hours. Travel fees depend on your ZIP code, and aftercare and keepsakes are additional. See our pricing and service areas, and we will confirm your total before your appointment.

What areas do you serve?

We travel to homes throughout San Diego County, from the South Bay to North County and East County. Temecula and other outlying areas are available by phone quote. Our service area list shows travel fees by ZIP code.

What aftercare options do you offer?

We partner with Peaceful Waters for individual (private) and communal aquamation, a gentle water-based alternative to cremation. With private aquamation, your pet’s remains are returned to you. Keepsakes and home delivery are also available.

Does submitting the online form confirm my appointment?

No. Our team will contact you to confirm availability and appointment details. If you need help sooner, please call or text.

My pet passed away at home. Can you help?

Yes. A Transitions team member can pick up your pet and bring them to our aftercare partner, subject to availability. Please call or text us to arrange this.

What if my pet needs urgent care outside your hours?

We are not an emergency hospital. If your pet is in distress outside our hours, please contact your nearest 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital.

Do you offer grief support?

Yes. Our grief resources page lists local and national support for families after the loss of a pet.
